**"Scenes of a River City"**

Scenes of a River City (2024) is a series of paintings depicting various places in Whanganui, New Zealand. These pieces shine a light on the beauty of this small town that is often missed in our everyday lives. There is a saying that goes, "Stop and smell the roses." - this exhibition explores this idea in Whanganui and asks us to slow down and look around at the beauty surrounding us in this small town. Appreciating the small things in life has been said to increase an individual's happiness - so next time you are at the park, driving to work, or walking along the river, stop for a second and look around at these quiet details that are often overlooked.

**About the Artist**

Diljeet was born and grew up in Whanganui, and recently moved to Melbourne, Australia, and is currently studying for a Diploma of Visual Arts at RMIT University there. The medium she has grown to love throughout her art journey is gouache paint - Diljeet decided to use gouache for this series as she wanted to use a traditional medium to reflect the traditional, vintage charm of Whanganui, and be able to give the buildings and statues that painterly texture that is difficult to achieve in other mediums.
